2024 – August part 1

Hey there,

We started off August without being sick. That was a nice accomplishment.

Since we were all feeling better, we took the kids to see “Twisters” in the theater. We all enjoyed the movie as a family. Plus side, we now know of a cheap theater in the Portland area (sub $6 for tickets)

We also took a trip over to Gramps to visit with him. It had been a while since we had seen him – he had the kids eating off of his plum tree.

What else?

We took a trip to Seattle as one of the museums that we have a membership to (thanks to the kid’s school for paying for it) had an event where you could see the Blue Angels take off from their location, they were having all sorts of guest speakers and other events going on.

The kids liked the airplane that they set up for photos too.

They also had an astronaut as a guest speaker. Michael A. Baker (a retired captain in the United States Navy, former NASA astronaut, and the International Space Station Program Manager for International and Crew Operations, at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.) He was a part of the space shuttle missions: STS-43, STS-52, STS-68, and STS-81. The kids asked him a question and then got to take a photo with him too.

Then we went outside and watched the Blue Angels take off (and some other planes do a flyby for the crowd).

While here – the kids wanted to get something “Blue Angles” so we got them some small trinkets to take home and hopefully not break before next week.

That night we stayed in Seattle – and the next morning we walked over to the Space Needle (Ezra’s first visit).

Pretty exciting for the first part of the month. It’s hard to believe we aren’t even a week in and have done this much so far.

Upwards and onwards!

2024 – July part 3

So

The kids have been wanting to get out of the house a bit more and we don’t mind going for drives. We planned a weekend at the coast. The first stop was the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

I’m always surprised when I return because in my mind I always imagine it being much bigger and grander than I see when I visit. Still worth a stop, but don’t expect anything huge in land size.

Next stop?

The Beach.

Seeing as how it was Ezra’s first time at the beach, we even took him to dip his little feet in the water. It was cold but he didn’t mind it so much.

We left with a pretty cool shot of the car around sunset with those gull-wing doors (or as Tesla calls them: falcon wing doors).

What else?

RAIN!!? In July?! Sign me up.

We were lucky to have a storm strong enough to break through the heat. It dropped temps down and we enjoyed the change. I wish we got more rain in the summer anyway, but I’ll take what I can get.

Ezra also got some glasses (he looks so fancy) and at work, I’ve been finishing up reading a book (for work).

That is about it for July! Stick that knife in it, baby, it’s done.

2024 – July part 2

Hey again,

It is time for the standard photo of the baby in my jersey. I’ve gotten one with each of the kids with this jersey or with my Stoudamire jersey. Gotta keep it going, right?!

The kids went to a local event/festival and got these coupons for a Happy Meal and from their reading program, they got a free Slurpee as one of the prizes they could pick from.

Then we got sick. Norovirus plus food poisoning. It wasn’t fun. It got so bad that Ara and Sky felt like they couldn’t breathe. Ended up calling a nurse line, who referred us to 911, who then said we should have someone come to the house. They came and got Ara and Sky and took them in. They were released the next day after getting fluids and oxygen.

Not something we saw coming and nothing I’d like to experience again.

Let’s not end this on such a bad note. So after we were feeling better – the temps cooled down as well. We had a cookout.

A couple of days later we watched the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics which is being hosted in Paris. Very cool opening, I liked how they incorporated so much of the city and the rich history into things.

Until next time
