There was a thing that Wendy’s did that said “When the first dunk happens during either the 2026 NCAA Division I Men’s or Women’s Basketball National Championship Games (April 5th & 6th), Wendy’s will unlock a FREE Dunk for America offer nationwide, a FREE Frosty & Fries** pairing redeemable in-restaurant on Tuesday, April 7 (2–5 p.m. local time) at participating Wendy’s nationwide.”

Well, it happened. And who are we to pass up a freebie? Truth be told, we hit up 3 different Wendy’s restaurants. Evidence of our guilt below:

What else happened lately?

On the 10th of this month, NASA welcomed the astronauts back to Earth. The scene reminded me a little of the TV show “I Dream of Jeanie”.

See the resemblance? Yes, I understand there was no Jeanie, but still- you gotta admit. For a show that first aired in September of 1965, it’s held up.

Shortly after this, we got ready for Arabella to spend the week away from us at Outdoor School. Basically, she gets to go to a camp from M-F next week to spend some in-person time with her peers at school. It’ll be good for her, but even so, I will miss the girl.

We had the boys watch Titanic on the evening of April 14, 1912, the anniversary of the event, which eventually sank in the early hours of April 15. Each year, around that time, we make a point of watching the movie “Titanic”.

This pairs well with the recent trip we took to OMSI last month to see the Titanic exhibit – read that post here.

One thing that always bothers me now about the event is the role of the SS Californian.

“As Titanic’s passengers struggled in the freezing Atlantic, many survivors reported seeing the lights of a nearby ship. Most historians believe this was the SS Californian, which was within visual range but failed to respond to distress signals. Confusion, ignored rockets, and miscommunication meant rescue never came. The Californian’s controversial role remains a subject of debate even today.”

In an inquiry held later, they were cleared of any wrongdoing despite being close (within sight) of the Titanic. I think it’s a nice copout. Meanwhile, the RMS Carpathia responded entirely differently:

“What sets the Carpathia’s rescue apart isn’t just the speed or efficiency with which Captain Rostron and his crew acted but the compassion they showed to those they rescued. Survivors were not just passengers—they were grieving, cold, and in shock from the unimaginable horror they had just endured. Carpathia’s crew, and even its passengers, showed boundless kindness, offering food, comfort, and clothing to the survivors.

Read more about the rescue itself. Some accounts mention that in his urgent response, the captain pushed his boilers past their max:

“To reach the scene quickly, Rostron ordered all off-duty firemen and trimmers to the boiler rooms to keep the ship’s boilers at full pressure, providing maximum steam to the engines. He even shut off steam heating to passenger cabins to conserve steam for the engines, which were working at their limits. Passengers noticed the ship’s lights were bright and felt vibrations from the straining machinery.

Rostron had the lifeboats swung out, gangway doors and ladders lowered, nets and ropes rigged, and first aid stations set up in dining rooms. He also prepared cargo cranes for luggage and mail, and ensured crew and passengers were fed and clothed for the long night ahead.”

It didn’t go unnoticed:

“Captain Rostron’s leadership became legendary. Not only did he navigate the ship safely through an ice field, but he also personally oversaw the welfare of the survivors. His actions led to international recognition, including a knighthood from King George V and the U.S. Congressional Medal of Honor.”

Imagine if the othership had compassion and action? I think the story would’ve changed entirely. I think the same can be said about many things that happen in our lives.

Ending with a bible verse: “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. – Colossians 3:12
