2022 – February part 1

The Portland Winter Lights is each February.

This year they have split it into a couple of weekends (and still made it spread throughout the city) for COVID means. I don’t mind it – sometimes is a little much to drive like 20 miles and find out that they were having technical difficulties, but that rarely happens. This post will pretty much be ALL about the Winter Lights festival.

The big whale up top was driven down from a light display in Canada. One cool display was Cymaspace. This was made by people who were deaf, and the lights would change based on the bass that was playing. The vibrations that those who are deaf could hear. It was a really good piece and we ended up talking to the guy and his family about it. The lights on the tree were from a “Save the Giants” park that they have locally. A community chipped in to save the few remaining sequoias that are in the area.

They had light displays from the Three Stinky Goats Farm, downtown and even over near Oaks Park.

Another cool display this year was “A Light to Read Dr. Suess” which is this rotating light in the room. We spoke with the guy who created it. He had a lot of books all around (Dr. Seuss of course) and it was a relaxed setting to read. The kids didn’t mind at all. Luca claimed on his siblings and they all read some books.
