2021 – July part 1
hey
We started July with some work. As is pretty normal, I take the baby for the better part of the day and he sleeps away while I work away. Things at BPA have been going well and they are giving me the project that I will be the PM lead on.
On July 3rd we decided to take a trip to the gorge and visit a local lavender farm. It was pretty warm outside, but it was nice to sit and enjoy the quiet (amongst the kid’s noise). If you were quiet you would only hear a “buzz” in the background where all the bees were busy with the lavender. As much as I don’t like bees, I prefer them when they aren’t occupying their time trying to terrorize me.
After finishing up that, we took a trip down to Independence Oregon! They are having a 4th of July fireworks show (and the last few years it has been scarce for the amount/opportunities to see fireworks due to COVID and trying to keep people from gathering in crowds – therefore causing a super spreader event. However, we are now vaxxed and feel more comfortable with where things are. Note: We will still social distance and do our part. There was a fee to enter the area where they had the fireworks, so we hiked down along the river and found a spot that had a fantastic view of the fireworks (for free). I can’t say I’ve ever been super patriotic (except maybe a few years following 9/11) and my goal with going to the 4th of July celebrations is simply just to see the pyrotechnics.

We did that on the 3rd, therefore leaving the option to go see fireworks again on the 4th if we wanted to. This time we planned to go to the coast and see fireworks over the ocean. We left the next morning and headed out. We dressed up Luca in a special outfit that declared this was his First 4th of July (see below).
That afternoon on the way to the coast there was some traffic and my parents got separated from us (they were following our car). They ended up getting behind one of those people who will go slow until there is a passing lane – and then floor it so that you can’t pass them. Long story short, my dad went to pass (and the guy sped up more), and well… there was a Yamhill County cop nearby who then pulled him over and gave him a ticket. We tried to make the rest of the day better but for obvious reasons that would make anyone upset, it was harder than it would be looking back on it.
We took a group selfie and you can see the displeasure on my dad’s face.

We did make it to Lincoln City and the fireworks were good, however, the night had a bit of a damper on it due to that whole ordeal.
Next few days we went on some hikes (as we have the Oregon State parks pass) and wanted to get some additional usage from it. Here are some photos of just a fraction of the falls we went to.

On the way out from visiting the falls, we came across this car. On the back, it says “AMERICUHH” and notes “LIONS NOT SHEEP” with an NRA/glock logo and a “HE>i” decal. There are a bunch of contradictions just within that… oh and yeah don’t miss that huge flag draped on the back of the truck either. Bleh. Icky ick icky.

We also sent Arabella to visit with my parents. It would be good to get her a little break and out of the house. She was so excited to get some alone time with her Grammy and Grampy. The next day (after she left) we dressed up the boys and they posed for a picture to send to their sister.
