Reading a book, thought I would share… some notes
Christ is the end of law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes (Romans 10:4)
The word “end” in its context can also mean “goal”
The believer is not under law as a rule of life- unless under the law of love, and that is a completely different, it is fulfilled by obedience
§– To be under law = to be under the dominion of sin
§– To be under grace = to be liberated from the rule of law and the dominion of sin (p.193)
►
The ineffectiveness of the law was due to the weakness of the flesh
§– No longer established on stone, but engraved in human hearts
§– This “Heart of flesh” is now written with the spirit of God, not on stone tablets
►The written code kills
§– It declares the will of God without imparting the power to do it and pronounces death on those who break it
§– The purpose of the law – men should be holy as God is holy
►
The spirit gives life
§– With the life he imparts an inward power as well as a desire to do the will of God
– The spirit will renew your mind, so one will not only approve but do His will
§The Law of Love
►– Gives guidance to the church
►– Mostly is concerned with personal relations
§“A Christian Man is a most free lord of all, subject to none. A Christian man is a most dutiful servant to all, subject to all.” – Luther
►Subject to none = his liberty; subject to all = his charity
