Ambushed

Hey there

We had already been to Salem to see the Cherry Blossoms and decided this year we wouldn’t do downtown Portland’s set either.

Then I read about something new they were doing this year:

“A section of Tom McCall Waterfront Park’s cherry blossoms illuminated Monday night from sunset to 10:00 p.m. Hollywood Lights is behind the project, with bright pink spotlights on Portland’s favorite springtime flowers. The new “ambush lighting” Hollywood is providing is in collaboration with the Japanese American Museum of Oregon.

Huh, well, now they piqued my interest. Guess we would be going afterall.

Arabella was so disappointed to see pink everywhere. 😉

She even wore a pink dress and a pink coat when we went to see them. I must say, very pretty.

Very different feel from the lights and setup in Salem. I hope they do this again.

That was it! They did this only 2 nights (and that was during the week). We caught it on the final night, which, while it may have been cold outside, was dry.

“At the start of this year, we started a program called ‘Ambush Lighting,’ where we just kind of pop up around town and do an impromptu guerrilla light show with the goal of just bringing a bit of joy and whimsy into the world,” said Brady Moore, the operations manager of Hollywood Lights.

Bring a bit of joy and whimsy into the world– I think they did just that.
