OMSI – Titanic

History.

It is something that we have always liked, and our kids have taken to it as well. All the kids, but Elijah in particular, love the Titanic’s history. We noticed that they had a new event at OMSI for the Titanic. We have been to some in other states, but at OMSI? We hadn’t done that before. Usually, their events leave a lot to be desired; however, since we were still members of OMSI, we decided to go.

Also, it helps that we just sold our old kitchen table, which gave us a couple of extra dollars to do so.

We spent a few hours walking around to see everything there was to see.

This was a pretty good display of items. Sure, there are others with different pieces. Given that this is a traveling show, it was pretty good. I could have posted a lot more photos of things, but instead posted some highlights.

One of the cooler things: before exiting, you step into this square room. All four walls are screens, giving you an immersive view. From the building of the ship, to the different levels of the Titanic, all the way to the iceberg strike and sinking.

The other thing that I thought was pretty unique was the set of dishes in the sand. That was from a wooden cabinet on the Titanic, and all the dishes were undamaged during the strike and sinking. Then, she lay on the floor of the ocean for 73 years. Various microorganisms ate the wood cabinet, leaving only the plates, still stacked in an orderly fashion, but now in the sand.

end quote {[“My God, don’t ask me too much,” she said [when being asked after by a reporter]. “Tell me, have you any news from Dan? He grabbed me in his arms and knocked down men to get me into the boat. As I was put in the boat he cried: ‘It’s all right, little girl; you go ahead, I will stay a while. I’ll put on a life preserver and jump off and follow your boat.’ As our boat shoved off he threw a kiss at me, and that is the last I saw of him.”- Mrs. Daniel Warner Marvin}]
