Crossing Lines & Counting Stars

It’s the trip that keeps on giving.

We left the hotel and headed to another roadside attraction.

Carhenge!

Despite it being quite warm outside, the display itself was pretty cool (no pun intended).

From what I can gather, the cars weren’t always painted until more recently, when artists began painting them. They left one car for everyone to draw/write a note/sign at the end. Arabella was all over that.

Then the state sign got tricky!

See, entering Kansas, someone had cut down the sign. There was nothing to take a photo of, so we kept on going.

Where to? The center of the Contiguous United States.

It was cute, and they had a chapel nearby that we visited as well.

That was it!

The rest of the day was spent driving across Kansas and toward Oklahoma.

Very shortly thereafter, we were in the darkest parts of the night, upon which we came across the border.

First thing we did?

Flipped a U and went back to take a photo of the Kansas state line first.

I couldn’t believe the stars you could see with your eyes, B-e-a-utiful.

The photo of the stars below was taken with my iPhone.

Kinda crazy. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this many stars with the naked eye.

Then we took a short trip back over to Oklahoma. We did end up sitting a little on that state line, enjoying the stars that were shining above.

Of course, we shall end this one with a lyric:

“When I look at the stars, I see someone else. When I look at the stars, the stars I feel like myself.” – Switchfoot

Looking at the infinite night sky makes personal struggles feel small and rather insignificant. Maybe we should all look at the stars a bit more.
