2023 – April part 3
We are nearing the end of the month and temperatures have remained cool. We have a warmup for the last weekend that will push our temps locally here in Portland up to the 80s and in nearby Seattle to the 70s. We wanted to take this opportunity to take a trip up north and check out the tulip fields. I’ve been told they have some of the best in the country and as pretty as the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm is, it doesn’t measure up.
We booked a couple of free hotel rooms (using points) and drove up on Friday afternoon. Got up on Saturday morning and went to this place called RoozenGaarde. They also run tulips.com (which is pretty good for bragging rights). It was a warm day and got up to the mid-70s – so warm that all of the kids started to complain about the heat. Bless their hearts as they don’t remember those 120-degree Phoenix summers and 90-degree nights when we “cooled” off.
This place did not disappoint. They take the typical tulip festival and mix it up with designs and patterns and everything in between. Here are some photos:

If you see the bottom photo, it was a huge area that had a red heart that said “I U” inside the Heart. Kinda cute and from what I’ve seen and read, they change things up every year, so you never really see the same thing. Worth the trip and the visit if you are here during these times. Normally the tulips are all gone by now due to the heat, but because it has remained unseasonably cool, they have lasted much longer this year (and will remain open until the first week of May).
That night we explored Lynwood a bit. They had this cool-looking heart near where we stayed so we took a photo of the kids with it.

What else? Since we were at a hotel, they had a pool. We took the family for a swim to cool off (from those overbearing hot 70s hahaha) and spent the night watching some movies. The next day we visited the Boeing Future of Flight museum (see here). The kids enjoyed it. They wanted to go ever since we saw this place when we were in the Seattle area for the New Year.
On our way back down to Portland we stopped at Snoqualmie Falls because why not?! We had the time and it had been a couple of years since we visited. Elijah was just a wee little tike at that point.
That is it for the month! Tomorrow is May so prepare yourselves for all of the “It’s gonna be MAY” (think NSYNC*) memes.
Work wise? I still am on assignment at Microsoft, which will come to a close in June and then hopefully they will have something else lined up for me, or something else comes up. Either way…
