2021 – May part 2

It’s spoiling time!

We took a hike (as Elijah wanted to show Grammy and Grampy the fall that you could walk behind) and took a selfie. The next day we took a trip to the only covered train bridge in Oregon known as the Chambers Railroad Covered Bridge. The lines that you see down the middle are the spots that trains use to travel across. They even had a metal fabrication that the kids could climb on. Lijah likes trains and hiking. What else does he like?

Lighthouses.

Next stop: The Oregon Coast.

We took a trip to the Heceta Head Lighthouse and also the Umpqua River Lighthouse. At the Umpqua River Lighthouse, we took a tour inside and it did not disappoint. While on tour they said “If you can… stay in the area and come back at night. We have the lighthouse running at night so you can really appreciate the colors and how far the light reaches in the distance.” They were not kidding. You will see one photo (above) of it at night. I want to do this again someday.

What a fun time. Since we were on the coast, we went to yet another lighthouse before stopping at Fort George Brewery. Why did we go to a brewery? It is no surprise that I’m not a fan of beer, but if you have gotten your COVID shot they are giving a 6 pack of beer to you for free. Free is free! Another couple of photos of Luca as he seemingly keeps getting cuter by the day.

We finally had a chance to meet up with Gramps and Ellie. It was good before we finally got to have Luca meet him. He told us about how he has “long-term COVID” and will never be the same after having it. He still struggles with things that he never had an issue with before. I’m proud to say he has gotten his COVID-19 shot, but unfortunately, he is the only one in his household who has. Everyone else keeps telling him he only had the flu and it was only bad because he is old. It makes me want to go tell them things but I know better. It would fall on deaf ears. If anything, at least he is protected from getting it again.

Not more than a day later Emily was in town as Nam had some work event in the area. She brought Brianna and our kids were able to meet and make friends. It was nice to meet up. I will say though – it was pretty awkward when she visited. She mentioned that she wanted Nam to be there with her (which I could understand) but something still felt different. Who knows. She is one of my longest friends and that won’t be changing, but maybe this is a new norm. After going to the lighthouse we took everyone to Tillamook before Emily had to head back to pick up Nam from work.

We took the rest of the afternoon and went to the Peter Iredale shipwreck. Caught it just right to catch the golden hour. The family photo of us is by far one of my all-time favorite photos we have taken. Sidenote: if you notice Elijah has a red nose it is because he fell earlier that day and scraped it up. If you look at the photo with Brianna he doesn’t have any marks.
