2016 – June part 2

We visited all sorts of memorials along the way. Waco was a pretty interesting area in and by itself.

This hardly scratches the surface of everything we were able to see. At a very high level, this was what we saw. The weather though was hot. It was a regular hot and muggy Dallas day when we were downtown, temps into the 90s. It made us feel drained, I mean- we came to get out of the heat and not do all of this running around in it! The same night that we were in Dallas we also got caught in a microburst kind of storm. It kind of seemed like we were in a tornado (even if a baby one). The winds were shaking the van, it was hard to drive and the rain was flooding the roads. We were on Periscope at the time and filmed the whole thing (it’s now defunct) so we no longer have any record of it. I recall people telling us to be safe as it looked scary to them.

On the photo of where we got stuck: driving over/along the Mississippi River. We wanted to see if there was a road that would give us a good view of the river. We went down some dirt road and could just about see the river but then it turned away. We noticed chainsaws and other items laying around and said “uhhh, let’s get out of here” but it was too late.

By the time we turned around the area that we entered had a locked gate standing before us. We had to call the police and get out of the area as night was approaching and we didn’t want to spend it in an area like that. The officer came and opened the gate.. we explained how we got turned around and he had us follow up for the way out and wishes us well.

We went to the Potawamti site for Maryia as she has some roots dating back to that tribe. We went all over to as much as we could in this little bit of time we were allotted. We also made sure to see all of the arenas while in the area that the teams (where the Mavs/Cowboys/Spurs/Rockets/OKC Thunder/Pelicans and Saints) all play. One regret we had was not going to more of the memorial events. Like the OKC Bombing had a walk-through or other things to see and in Dallas, there were multiple JFK history memorials you could have seen. As much as we did see, we left a lot unseen. Ever since this crazy trip, we wanted to go back – but life hasn’t afforded us the opportunity to do so yet. Hopefully again and this time with all the kiddos!

This post will bring us all the way through June of 2016, so I’ll leave off here. I can remember that a lot more happened this year and I’ll need the space (and time).

just Pray
