I’m tired if not being any fit to anyplace anywhere at any given time.
Jobs. Oh I have come to loathe many a HR departments. Non-responsive and overall not a joy to deal with.
Needless to say, the job I wanted I didn’t get. I may lose it soon if nothing continues to be the best job I can land.
So tired of it all. I am heavily applying in places I don’t really want to be. Multiple areas across the country. Again. Maybe this time….?
At my wits end.
Help? Please? A sign, a glimpse of hope… do something. Say something… Please? This silence is killing me. This deafening silence could spell the end of me.
I have been able to find work to apply to and was luck enough to even be brought in for more interviews. Oh interviews, how I like you so.
So I am waiting to hear back from that position still. Hopefully it comes through… Otherwise we might be taking a trip to PHX or PDX to look for work. Not looking forward to going to either place to be honest. I’d much rather end up in say… SEA or something. Don’t know those locations? Google them.
Anyway things have been crazy. I feel like I am losing my mind and my temper most days. Alas… life goes on.
Talibangelism? It’s a term that some are starting to use to call Christians. That is, if they have a mind of their own. If they don’t be believe in Gay Marriage or other things. If they believe in the bible being the word of God. Ick ick ick. Might not be totally used across the board but I looked up the word on twitter and there were a ton of posts with it. What’s have we become? Is this what the future looks like?
Anyway…
We made a trip to the ocean this past weekend and took Max for the first time. He enjoyed it at first, but then he became more interested in going after other dogs at the dog beach than actually enjoying his time outside of the house. Crazy dog…
Be more dog. Check out this video. Great marketing at work. I enjoyed it.

So this time I shall leave you with some words of wisdom.
Last time I updated on the status of looking for work. Here I am with news!
Remember Carnival? The 5 interviews I spoke of, plus others on different dates I didn’t mention? (The total number of interviews was 7). Well, they passed.
Okay. attbatt.com… Now we are on to something. My contact let me know they wanted to move forward and then a day or so later let me know the position had been filled. I asked for feedback on both and received nothing.
At my wits end? Kinda. Yes. Absolutely.
I have an interview for an insurance job on Tuesday. Not sure what to think. I honestly always try to stick to my game plan of: hope for the best but prepare for the worst. It has never failed me before.
If that too doesn’t pan out, well then I have asked around about open job spots with any connections I might still have. I applied to some work in Oregon, Arizona… heck. If I can live off it at this point it is something that we would seriously consider.
I was tossing the idea around of returning to school. Not sure if that really has a chance or not, but its an idea.
Speaking of random things… June 3rd at 11:33pm I woke up from an odd dream I had. On June 25th the dream came to fruition. Weird huh? I thought it was absolutely crazy. When I had the dream I originally paid no real attention to it and just ignored it.
Um.. what else?
For Father’s Day this year we went down to Long Beach and spent some time at The Pike.
It’s a nice outdoor area that has a lot of things to do. We mainly wandered from place to place and had dinner nearby. Even took a stroll along the beach.
The beach. The one constant thing for the past (who know how many weeks/months). In fact this weekend and last we went to Sunset beach.
Last week we had a blast. This weekend we were blasted. Haha. But seriously, we were. So last weekend it was a normal beach weekend. Nothing big. This weekend? We didn’t read the Surf/Rip Current report. Bad idea. It says (from the NOAA government website): ” …HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK…
.TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY… SURF HEIGHT………………2-4 FEET. RIP CURRENT POTENTIAL……..HIGH. VERY STRONG CURRENTS AND DANGEROUS SWIMMING CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED. WATER TEMPERATURE…………60-68 DEGREES.”
We dove right in. We noticed that the water was a TON stronger than any of the prior weeks we went. We also noted that in the prior week at the beach we could stand about waist high once you walked out about 15 feet. This week? That same spot was over your head. You had to go probably 30 feet just to get in a position to stand. Then the waves would smash upon you to wash you ashore.
Think it wasn’t bad? I am a good swimmer, by no means the best but I would say I’m a strong swimmer. It’s about how you move your body in reaction to whatever the water does more than anything. My endless summers spent as water foul helped me to have webbed feet (a saying.. Not literal). There were surfers who felt the water today who refused to go in because of the strength of the waves. There was a group of buff men who tried to swim out to me (because they could see I was standing) but out of 3 only 1 made it (and that was after several failed attempts). It was crazy. Maryia and my mom stayed close to the coast (ankle high) and some of the waves knocked them over or even pulled them in over their heads.
Anyway. Enough talking about it- just know it was crazy. Next time I think we are are going to make a point to check the Surf Forecast.
I know I didn’t explain what rip current are, so I found this to help explain it better than could. It’s good to know.
I suppose that’s all I have for this time. July is upon us! How insane is that?
I thought it was time that I update on my job search. I am sure that you are looking forward to it and are just as excited as I am to tell you about it.
2 prospects.
Carnival and atbatt.com
Carnival? Yeah, they have their Princess and Cunard lines based right here in town. I applied and was brought in for an interview. They seemed to like me as they then took me for about 4 or 5 more interviews. Along the way I was able to ask a lot of different questions about the company. It was quite telling. Some people told me the biggest challenge of working the job was dealing with co-workers, some said management and others said the type of customers.
Then I asked about the corporate atmosphere. Does the CEO and other corporate business units have a good pulse on the company? This one everyone answered with a resounding no. In fact most went on to tell me much more. How they work no less than a tenth of a mile from him but have never met any of the executive staff in the 25 years they’ve worked there. Others said it was hard enough trying to talk to your manager because they would never be around when you needed them.
Well, career pathing… It must be good right? Um…. Start off as a customer service agent at slightly above minimum wage. Fast forward 1 and 1/2 years after you have gone through all job types in the call center (sales, outbound sales, inbound sales) each one for a minimum of 6 months… then if you have the recent qualifications they need and the schooling (they made that clear)… then you could be considered.
Nice.
Not bad though. It would be a job. They said they liked me and are keeping me in consideration for another few weeks at which point they will let me know if they are moving forward or not.
Then there is atbatt.com
Small battery company located and operated locally. Been around since 99′ and still doing a reasonable amount of business. Seems like it would actually be a good fit. I made it past the phone screening and the in person interview. Now I wait to see if the CEO wants to meet with me. If so– then I go in for a final interview.
When I say small company, I mean small. They have a call center with nearly 10 agents. If you know company sizes and call centers – that should shock you.
I don’t think its bad. In many ways it reminds me of a previous job I had which will not be named. Its like Voldemort – ‘he who must not be named’ type of a deal. But I say that it reminds me of a previous job I had in a good way. I hope that one I am able to move forward with.
Normally when I hope for something it doesn’t bode well, so I am hoping that it won’t ruin any chance I have.
If those don’t pan out, then I am back to the drawing board. Yes, that same frickin’ drawing board that I’ve been hopelessly staring at for so long now.
I’ve been meaning to blog more this month, yet whenever I go to I end up forgetting what I was going to blog about in the first place.
I have 2, lets see if I can squeeze one more out this month. That’s right, a goal! Whoohoo!
I wish my friends blogged more.
Almost done- anyone who knows me knows that I like some R&B right? I know some of my friends will automatically recognize this song, if you don’t… listen to the clip and then go listen to Warren G – Regulate. It had me cracking up…
One last bit of news, was that this past weekend I had a super big migraine. Haven’t had one this bad in well over a year. I was bed ridden for a few days. I wish it upon nobody. I keep saying it every time after I have one— but man alive you really appreciate having a normal painless head after getting over one of those.
So as my last post indicated I was able to go to the Star Trek Into Darkness prescreen. Well, there was this contest on Facebook with esurance. Jist of the game was to win tickets to see Star Trek in the movies. I activated my facebook profile and played every day.. then after winning or losing, logging out and trying again the next day.
We ended up winning. So did my parents. We were all able to go see the Star Trek movie (for me and Maryia it would be our second time).
The passes were time sensitive and we wanted to make sure we didn’t lose our tickets (by having them expire). Last week we made a point of going. We had the option of seeing the movie in 2d or 3d. Naturally we picked 3d. We ended up making a date night out of it (yes, another Star Trek movie date night) but hey, when you don’t have any money the cheap dates are the best ones. We checked in at the AMC to ensure we would have a good seat – but then noticed that it was actually just a 2d showing. Ick! We immediately asked the manager on duty if there was anything they could do – they looked up our seats online and verified that they should have been 3d. Then they asked us if we wouldn’t mind being upgraded to the IMAX 3D showing an hour later than our original showtime.
Needless to say, we agreed. Com’ on… IMAX? It was pretty cool, because the contest specifically stated that the tickets couldn’t be used for IMAX showings, yet because of the mixup we were upgraded to it. We both enjoyed the movie more on the IMAX screen. Man, the last movie I saw on IMAX was a prescreen about a year ago. Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which I can also recall being very good.
That’s my big story.
As far as the weekly beach thing? It is still going strong. We have gone to a lot of beaches- and have it down on where to park freely. This weekend? No clue – the streak might be in danger and could possibly be snapped.
So amongst applying for jobs, I also look for prescreens. I was able to get one for World War Z. We got in line for this screening early (probably 2 hours before) which is rare for us. I had however been hearing that a LOT of people had been trying to get tickets to the shows in the area and so demand would be on the rise.
We got in, but would you believe we were probably within the last 50 people to get in? There was a line that wrapped around the building – but this building was huge. Probably about as big as an arena- it was across from the Staples Center in LA. So, we get in and there are all of these people pushing and shoving to get ahead of us. It seriously felt chaotic. We were unable to find a seat for anyone. Every seat was “taken” – I was started to get frustrated when my parents were able to find seating in an exclusive area just for press and family…. thanks to Willie. We pulled the family card and were finally able to grab a seat. Free popcorn and free drinks helped to ease the annoyance of everything leading up to that point. Well, then we had a little surprise before the movie started when Mr. Brad Pitt popped his head out of a curtain near the stage and welcomed everyone. We were on the top balcony- could see him fine, but you couldn’t really tell by the picture I snapped.
It was pretty cool. After the movie they handed out free shirts to everyone.
MASS CHAOS. I’ll tell ya that.. but in the end it was worth it. Movie was good- so were the little surprises along the way. They even had a green screen where you could take pictures and they would print them out for you as a little souvenir.
Fun times indeed. Such is the life of the unemployed and living in LA.
