Year: 2007

Hey

I was told I needed to update my poetry page.

I no longer post poems on my blog…

Go to my poetry site.  http://jshox.blogspot.com

Random fact for the day…. In highschool I was on the Yearbook staff and I was given a certificate at the end of the year.  It said

“Most Likely to create a website for the Portland Trailblazers”

Oh, the Blazers won tonight in overtime!

I was looking up artists last night and reasons to why Kevin Max isn’t heard about as much as Tait or Toby Mac.  He plays at local venues, and small churches.  People ask him why he isn’t more famous than he is…  He said he doesn’t want to have any title.  TobyMac and Tait both have the Christian label all over them.  He wants to reach across all sectors of music….

“Music is bigger than the Christian Church. Music is bigger than the Pagan Church. Music is bigger than people who don’t want to go to church. Music is God authored and that in itself is a huge deal. God is universal. You cannot put a title on that.” – Kevin Max

Hey

A few weeks ago there was this competition (that made national headlines) on a New York radio station. It was to see who would drink the most water before going to the bathroom. All for money…. It came down to two women. One woman died from not going to the bathroom after taking in so much water.

For some reason it has been in my head today.

Last night I was looking through my blog. I went back a good year or so.. I can’t believe I started this blog back in 2003.

It seems like it wasn’t that long ago. Yet looking through the pages of my past, I see how much has happened and it blows my mind.

“My life’s an open book, nothing is hidden when you look – you break through my boundaries, revealing my insecurities ….. but through my pride and through my shame , you show me love you show me grace I’m not lookin back til I see your face.. I’m running straight to you.” -B429.

I saw the illusionist tonight. Good movie.. I really liked it. Hil told me about it a while back and said I would like it. She was right…

Also saw Employee of the Month. I was told (before I had a chance to see it) that movie was good because Jessica Simpson did not have many lines. It was alright, and it is true.. she didn’t have many lines. I also don’t always believe how air-headed the media makes certain people out to be. Maybe that me being naive… maybe not.

Now for the thought patterns moving through on the Jfront for today….

I am not always as strong as people think I am. In my faith, in my walk… in life. I try to give hints to these things (as I have mentioned them before). I would really like people to love me for who I am, and where I am at. Backtracking and all…. And as I see these words typed upon the screen I feel like I am speaking like a nonbeliever. Nothing wrong with that… because people just want to be loved where they are at.

I’ve been thinking about this.. ever since Saturday? At Living Hope they changed the “If we are a Body” song. They have changed the way they sing it… I remember in voices we would sing the song word-for-word. It was better that way (even if it didn’t sound quite as good to some in a capella). They changed it to “We Are the Body”

I’ll give you an example. Part of the song goes like this: “A traveler is far away from home, He sheds his coat and quietly sinks into the back row. The weight of their judgmental glances tells him that his chances are better out on the road. But if we are the body, why aren’t His arms reaching? Why aren’t His hands healing? Why aren’t His words teaching? And if we are the body, why aren’t His feet going? Why is His love not showing them there is a way? There is a way”

Living hope sings it this way: “A traveler is far away from home, He sheds his coat and quietly sinks into the back row. The weight of their judgmental glances tells him that he’s finally, finally found a home. And We are the body, that’s why his arms reaching. That’s why His hands are healing. That’s why His words teaches. We are the body, that’s why his feet are going. That’s why His love is showing them there is a way. There is a way”

The original verses admits that yes, we as a Body of Christ need to change. The modified verses say, hey– we’re doing it right, we’re fine.

I dunno. I didn’t like it though. As for myself.. I never want to think I have it right. I don’t want that to ever enter into my mind. I know I’m not close, but you know what I’m saying. Instead I want to always be showing myself how I can improve. No harm to celebrate in growth, but I guess I just don’t think there is enough time for that. Too much of an urgency to seek further and deeper.

Okay, something else to talk about.. something lighter… maybe the weather? Nah.

This is great.

Some of my friends in Arizona just called me to tell me that it is snowing.

Snowing!  hahahahahah, can you believe it?!!

Yet, here it was raining earlier.  What a turn of events!

Argh!

So before the Blazers game tonight, the announcers kept saying “We are here in Rainy and cold Phoenix” — I could do nothing but smirk.

The Blazers lost tonight, by 5 points. Due to a load of bad calls that.. they were bad calls because they were not being made!

The Suns ended up winning, but we were close. *sighs frustrated* we should have snapped their streak.

Next season, who wants to sit in the arena with me rooting for the Blazers? No Takers? shucks.

The snow has melted now, and it was even misting today.

Anyway. That’s it for now.

With a stop light, green means ‘go’ and yellow means ‘slow down’. With a banana, however, it is quite the opposite. Yellow means ‘go’, green means ‘whoa, slow down’, and red means ‘where the heck did you get that banana?’ – Mitch Hedberg

Hola!

So this is yet another update.  I have pictures this time…. (something I’ve lacked in my last few posts).

I had to reformat my computer the other day after I got it back from Compaq

0111070207

I did it.  It didn’t fix the problems.  I called tech support, problems not solved.

I got off the phone when them, and downloaed a lot of drivers and changed some settings.  I got it so I can use it, but it still needs to be sent back in….

Last night I was out with friends.  Dayna treated me and Ruth to dinner and a movie.  Dinner at McDonalds, and a movie at the Avalon movie theater (shows older movies).  We saw Dejavu.  I liked it… it feels like I’ve said this before… hmmm woah crazy. 😉

Afterwards, I was at school hung out with Deniece and Ruth, I was treated to coffee at Starbucks.  It was dead quiet (not many people in Starbucks is a weird thing).  We ordered the coffee and the guys at Starbucks gave us our coffee for free.  And the people after us.. and so forth– cept when a cop came in they charged him.  Woohoo

I got home and looked online at news.  Came across the weather… the were saying we would get snow.

100_1258

And well.. we got snow.. not much at first.

100_1259

But by morning it had accumulated much more.

100_1263

First snow storm of the year.  First one since last March…  Portland gets them like once a year, and it has been freezing for the past week.  They expected it to snow/rain, but it just snowed.

100_1268

It made for a pretty scene.

100_1272

All the local news people had exclusive coverage of this breaking event.  It reminded me of when Phoenix gets rain.

100_1275

My mom and I built a snowman, sure… he has a longer arm than the other, leave him alone.

100_1276

My mom and I went walking.  My dad was home from work due to the snow (the city pretty much closes down)

100_1277

Voices was canceled today, and so were a lot of colleges and schools.

0116071341

It made me happy.

100_1279

0116071325

Snow anyone?

100_1281

100_1289

Hm, I took this picture and thought .. the sign looks like it is telling you there is snow both ways! 😉

100_1291

We walked to a coffee shop.

0116071404

Walk up to the place and I ask my mom if she has my card because I didn’t have my wallet.  “Um, no”  haha so we walked a good distance to a coffee shop with no money.  We went inside, warmed up and walked back home.

Snow is supposed to melt tomorrow, but it does make for an unusual sight here in Portland.
