Give an overview of your personal history. Include where you grew up, family situations (childhood to present), and how you feel these experiences will affect your participation in the Internship.
I was born in Putnam CT, and moved to AZ when I was 6 years old. I have lived in AZ for the rest of the time – minus 10 months last year when I lived in Portland. (a dream of mine) and here I am. I had a pretty normal childhood – if there is such a thing. Both of my parents are still together, but a few years ago they almost got a divorce. During that time.. my older brother Michael – who has never really been a role model for me – was getting into drugs. Basically tore the whole family apart – leaving me on his side – the only person saying that he could change. Time after time he lied and stole from me and my family – until now, where he is in jail. To make 10 pages a sentence, my brother has been in and out of jail in the past few years, mostly in – and my family still have scars to show from it. I feel that I have grown as a person – not only in the aspect that I can see things that are in front of me – but I have been able to take bits and peices of the whole thing – using them to relate to others.
Tell how and when you became a Christian and about your personal growth in Christ.
I became a Christian by listening to Christian music. I think it was a David Meece tape that my parents had. I was only in 3rd grade or so, and I would listen to the tape all the time. I would cry worrying about what would happen if I died. So I got down on my knees one night, and made the same prayer David Meece along with an audience of tens of thousands. My personal growth in Christ has rose since I have took up reading the DC talk Jesus Freak book. It has really opened up my eyes and now I am now working to be living more like those people.
Describe your current walk with the Lord, including how your faith is growing, the spiritual influences in your life, your quiet times, church involvement, leadership experience, and outreach activities you have engaged in.
My current walk with the Lord has to be desribed as crazy. I pray to him every night, but I really don’t have a Bible that has good terms that I can really get into. So I basically listen to Christian music – read things online (Jesusfreaks.net) and get inspired about what God can do in peoples lives, and wonder what he can do with me while reading the Jesus Freaks book by DC Talk that tells the stories of Christian Martyrs. My faith is growning in anticipation of the biggest movement that I could make in my life at this time – to go into the Honor Academy, and devote everything to him – and have a spiritual rebirth. There is nothing in my life I could want or need more. I currently have limited spiritual influences in my life – and most of them come from online friends, or people that I met at teenmania.com/chat. In my quiet times at night – in my room – I pray for hours on end. I am currently not involved with any church – but was up until about 8th grade. My family and I have never had the chance to experience church the way it is meant to be. It is either because of the people in the churches who won’t give us a chance, or people in church who frown on us – because of my brother. I have two brothers, and Michael is the one that is in jail. I was talking about Willie. He is mentally handicapped. People are so afraid of what they know the least about – and that puts a space inbetween us and the people who have not had to deal with it. On top of that – the pastors in our churches, were not all that great, and my parents weren’t getting much out of it – so we would switch churches ever so many months. I don’t know if I need to say it – but it was almost impossible to get involved with a Youth Group or any kind of Youth ministries. The closest I got to being a part of a group – was when my chruch had a teen field trip, and we went to see DC Talk on their Jesus Freak concert. My leadership experience is fairly limited as far as church skills. I use to run a Bible Study with about 3 members, but it didn’t work out, because it ended up that my friends were all Mormon, and couldn’t study just study the Bible. Other than that I am usually the one who takes lead when starting a good game of basketball. After all, it is my favorite sport. And I have no outreach activities that I can think of that I’ve been involved in.
Who has made the biggest impact on your life, besides the Lord? Explain.
The person that has made the biggest impact on my life besides the Lord, would have to be my handicapped brother – Willie. I watch over him more than a mother watches over a baby. I am so protective over him and the way people precieve him, it is crazy. I have to stop myself from getting so emotional about it – because people don’t understand anything that is different, anything that is abnormal they turn their nose up at. And if you want more of a life changing answer, I would have to say that it would be because of all the years that I’ve had my share of taking care of him. We all do our part, like how many people do you know wash and shower a 23 year old adult? How many people do you know – have parents that willingly take care of someone like my brother – hand feed him and watch over him 24/7? It sets the scene for me to be abnormal. Yet it’s Normal for me, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
List and explain three of your strengths.
One of my strenghts is caring about others, and really listening to what they have to say.
Another one would have to be my faith in something when I whole heartdly believe in it.
Lastly but one of my strongest – I love blindly. I don’t choose who I love, it can be someone online or someone in school – it is all based on their personality.
List and explain three of your weaknesses.
When I am alone and by myself I can get sad. Only because I think of how I could be doing so much with my life at this time, and how I’m not doing anything – and wasting away.
I don’t like speaking in front of any size groups.
I love blindly. I don’t choose who I love, my heart does, and that can get you hurt.
Explain how and why you feel God is calling you to be a part of the Honor Academy. Include how you believe the Honor Academy can help you meet your goals and how you can help fulfill the mission of the Honor Academy.
I feel God is calling me to be a part of the Honor Academy because of everything he has shown me. I have really had to open my eyes and look at myself and how I do things, and just every aspect of my life in the past year. I want to be closer with God, and surround myself with people that share his views. I think this is the best thing for me – and quite possible the only thing for me. I work at Sears, and the day after I called and talked to someone at Honor Academy, every other phone call I got was from Texas. How much more of a sign do I need? (I work at a national call center) My good friend was telling me that maybe God was trying to show me something else – becuase I was having tons of trouble getting into college (and she had no idea what was going on in my life) and ever since – the whole thought of being in the Academy has rocked my world. I would love to be given the chance to fulfill the mission of the Honor Academy. Please Accept me
