Hello Easter!

I can hardly believe it is April! I was browsing through my photos and realized that I still haven’t posted my Easter update! Oops!

Church was awesome! Cal always does a great job preaching!

We made Arabella’s Easter Basket

Took the girls to breakfast

We went to see some Bunnies

Even met this bunny

This was Arabellas favorite

We went to an Easter Egg drop at one of the churches. They dropped Easter eggs from a helicopter. Arabella loved waving at the “bunny in the sky”. Her excitement was so adorable. Seriously this kid melts my heart sometimes. I didn’t get any photos because I was holding her up to wave. It was much more exciting experiencing the moment than capturing it. We went to Easter service at our church (we attend church on Saturday because that’s what works for us).
The girls had a blast at Sunday school! I enjoyed the Service as well!

So much changes in such a short amount of time

The next day was Easter Sunday!

Someone Loved her new Dinahorse… the cat looked scared

The candy was a hit!

Easter Went by so fast!

Very Excited !

Well it’s been one crazy busy week! Less than 8 weeks to go! Jay and I decided that it would be a nice idea to get out and about. We headed to sunny Los Angeles on Saturday morning! First we stopped at the rental car place and then we were on our way. We arrived at what was supposed to be our motel in California at around 7pm. We were surprised to find out that hotwire.com had messed up somehow and our reservations had been canceled and the motel was overbooked. We called hotwire and they found us another place a few miles away… which was actually kind of an upgrade in comparison. The motel we were supposed to stay at didn’t look very inviting and the extended stay at least looked clean. We unpacked our very light amount of luggage and then headed to dinner.

We ate dinner at Ruby’s even though there was a 40 minute wait. It didn’t feel like it was that long because we were visiting with Jay’s parents and catching up. Once we were seated we dug in and prepared for our next adventure… NAPLES Christmas lights! It’s a tradition that we’ve decided to keep. This was our 3rd year walking about and seeing all of the lights. It didn’t disappoint! Everything was lit up to the max.

The next day we woke up and decided to get breakfast. As we were driving around our car was making an awful clunking sound. We soon found out that part of the bumper panel was falling off. We had to drive up to LAX to get a new car. They were slow and not super helpful but about 45 minutes later they got us into a new car. We decided because a good portion of our day was spent at the rental car place that we were going to stay an extra day. The previous night we were given a coupon for $25 off a hotel stay so it helped. We booked a double tree by the Citadel Outlet mall. When we arrived they greeted us with warm chocolate chip cookies and coffee. We headed to our room and decided to take a nap. Because it was already dark out we decided not to go to the beach as planned. Instead we went to the Urban Light sculpture that is right in front of the LA Museum of Art or down the street from the tar pits. It was beautiful and there were a ton of people taking photos. It was a little crowded at some times but we were still able to snap a few shots.

After a quick bite to eat we were out and about again. One of our favorite thing about LA is all of the things there is to see. We saw some more art… and then visited the Seinfeld apartment, Doc Browns house, and Marty McFly’s High school. We had a lot of fun exploring before we decided to go back and enjoy the fluffy hotel room. It was nice just to watch tv and relax after our night of exploration.

Los Angeles Exploration

After a good nights rest we awoke somewhat early to visit the outlet mall where we saw lots of tiny clothes. Jay even picked out the cutest Moose outfit! If we have a girl then we’ll buy her a bow she can wear with it!

Baby Stuff

As we headed further and further south we decided to stop for some dinner at Carrows and then head to the beach by sunset. It was nice and quiet with a slight breeze. The sun was coming down over the pier. Some lady offered us a puppy but Jay pulled me away before I got too carried away. We walked along the beach until we hit the pier where we watched the sun rest just below the pacific end. It was beautiful. We both enjoyed our little walk…and then it was time to head home! It was the perfect way to end our trip!

Musing Over Old Letters

Well today I embarked on the journey of going through some of the stuff in the spare room. There is so much stuff that we probably don’t need but I find I’m having a difficult time letting go. I opened a couple of boxes and started pruning away. Inside one of the boxes I found a smaller box filled with old letters. Many of them from friends but quite a few from family. I opened a few just to reminiscence. Letter after letter I read my childhood through the eyes of my loved ones. Letters from grandparents who I never got the chance to meet, family who I tried to get to know but communication dwindled as I aged. Family and connection has been so important to me and as of late I have failed to keep in touch. Facebook has stunted my letter writing, my phone calls, and my meet ups. It’s just easier to be a lazy friend. I’m trying to get the courage to no longer communicate through facebook but it is so hard. Facebook is one of the few ways that I see photos of my nieces and my nephews. Not to mention other family who I miss like crazy. However, facebook is poison to human connection. Sure it seems like a good idea but in reality it is so impersonal. People just don’t connect like they used to . It’s sad.

As I continued to look through letters and notes and unset but stamped thank you cards I realized that in the blink of an eye my life has passed me by. I’m not 22 any more and life is just speeding up. I keep praying that God has this plan for me that I can’t see and that some day I will wake up and think “oh it all makes sense now”… but I must still be dreaming because I just can’t see it yet. Life just keeps moving forward. I sometimes feel like I am moving backwards. Not using my degrees… doing exactly what I said I wouldn’t be. Life is funny like that.

Here we are in the city we least like living, in a small little condo, and hoping for the best. So many snags from day one. We arrived during a monsoon only to have to unpack in the pouring rain. Water past our ankles, running through puddles, and trying to out run the down pour that just seemed to chase us. Yet, somehow we managed to unpack the very stuffed U-hall in a short amount of time. Our floors were wet and our boxes had little puddles we had to pour off but we lived through it. The next few days we unpacked and spent money we didn’t yet have on things we deemed necessary. Both of us became discouraged as we dislike purchasing anything on borrowed money. I especially learned my lesson from student loans. But without any furniture or kitchen stuff… we had to bite the bullet. We made our way into the valley of defeat where we are now owned by the shackles of debt. We’re doing our best to make the best of it. We’ve been searching for the silver lining and looking for the positives. Jay hasn’t had an appetite since we’ve been here. I can tell he is struggling. Life seems to be spinning out of control in a sense. It’s like we got on a treadmill but can’t jump off.. just have to keep going. Faster and faster and faster. You want to turn off the controls but they aren’t within reach. So you pray. Pray for the beauty of life to show itself and hope that you can see it when it does.  And then maybe things will slow down and feel somewhat normal (whatever that is).

We really miss LA.. we miss the green and the weather and  the ocean and all the beaches and the beauty…  so it’s not hard to understand why we wonder if something beautiful can happen in a place so opposite.

I keep thinking of that song by Gungor… Beautiful things. I keep thinking that even though things aren’t ideal maybe something beautiful can find its way through.

Here’s a picture just before the flood!
