Explosives

Well we’re over 3 weeks now. Our sleep schedule is a little crazy and we are somewhat adjusted to our new life as a family.  We’ve been on quite a few outings now and ran a bunch of errands together. We’re starting to get the hang of things. I’m getting really good at eating one handed and I’m pretty sure that Jay can hook up the stroller in seconds now (attachments and all). Costco is still a bit of a challenge but we’re working on it. It’s amazing how quickly this kid goes through diapers and wipes! I was expecting maybe 8-10 a day. Not 15-20 a day. The odd thing as I figured I’d be more grossed out by her diapers. I will admit there have been a few times when I’ve jumped out of the way in fear of getting hit by the canon poop. It’s bit frightening at first because you never know if you’re going to get hit. But a little while later there is something to laugh about. It’s usually at the other person and how quickly they moved when they heard the canon firing but at least we can laugh about it!

Saturday we headed south for church but left early so we could enjoy a little cooler weather and a bit of greenery. We stopped at a park at one point so I could feed her. At the park Arabella saw a lake for the first time and touched grass for the first time. She liked to look but wasn’t a huge fan of touching. Her eyes are filled with so much wonder now. It’s neat getting to see her explore everything for the first time. I can’t wait to take her to Disneyland some day :)

Well I’m glad that we got a couple of photos of her in this outfit because it was the second time she wore it and shortly after it was destroyed by explosive poop and volcanic spit up. I was pretty sad because A. it was 5 minutes before church and B. it was one of her only girly outfits in her current size (newborn).  Changing that in the backseat of the Focus was quite an adventure in itself. But at least we were able to get a couple of photos of her in the outfit before it was retired. Luckily we had a spare onesie in the diaper bag. I kind of felt like a bad mom because it was a size too big, it wasn’t very cute, and it kind of made her look like a boy 🙁 You can tell by the expression she has in the photo she isn’t too happy! We headed to another park after church to relax as a family.

Sunday night I pumped so Jay could feed her. I pumped almost a full bottle and I was feeling a little impressed with myself. Well you know what they say.. “Pride comes before the fall.”  I must not of screwed on the lid very well because when Jay went to feed her nearly the whole bottle poured all over our bed. I know they say there is no use crying over spilled milk… but I did feel like crying a little. I was kinda hoping for a feeding break on my end and it had taken me a while to pump that much…now it was all over our bed. Poor Jay looked a little traumatized. The only solution was to pat down the bed with damp towels and then get out the hair dryer. We must have been a sight to see at 4 in the morning. Needless to say I have learned my lesson and will likely check the tops over every bottle from now on out. It was a bit of a rough night for us.

But the good times out weigh the explosive poop and volcanic spit up moments. The cutesie little faces and baby snuggles and bath time and explorations are worth every second of it. We may fall off the trolley a few times but at least we are loving getting to know our new life with each other.
