This must have really been a month to have 5 parts! FIVE. V. Insane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As mentioned previously we were going a little crazy at home. I went looking on Hotels.com and saw this Coastal Inn by OYO in Lincoln City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cost? $34. After taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What?!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yeah – we booked a night. At that price, we actually booked 2 nights. The reviews were fair, but if it’s even like a motel 6 it shouldn’t be that bad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The room was pretty terrible. We booked 2 queens but they were doubles at best. We didn’t have any fan\/ac in the room, the heater was a baseboard heater, and it looked like someone tried to break into the rooms multiple times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I spoke with hotels.com and we were able to get refunded for the second night. We didn’t sleep maybe but an hour or so that night. Where else can you go if you want to stay somewhere nice and not pay a lot of money? Seattle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we drove from Lincoln City up to Seattle. We stayed (using Hilton Points) for free at an Embassy Suites. It was much better than the night before. That night we went out to grab food and I noticed with my eyes… a SEARS! Still in business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyone who knows me, or has been reading this blog for a long time will know that I use to work for Sears (phone support, not in-store) but the downfall of Sears is one that hurts my heart – mainly because they were gutted by their own CEO. It didn’t have to be that way. Anyway- that’s another rant for another time. We stopped inside and ended up getting some items as nearly everything was on sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later on that night we headed back to the hotel, had the evening reception that the hotel hosted, and made our way to our rooms. The next day is the 31st. The last day of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What should we do? We took a poll and everyone wanted to stay another night. We checked out of one hotel and used some more points on another Hilton (the Garden Inn). We were staying in Mukilteo and so I looked for things to do. There was a cute lighthouse nearby (we visited during the day and then again at night) and a free Christmas light display at the Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens that we went to see. It was really fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then we made our way towards downtown Seattle. It is hard in the PNW to find events that celebrate… anything. Seattle does fireworks and more and its a free show. We figured that we were already in the area, so why not do it!?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We parked downtown and then took the monorail to the Space Needle area. While we were finding our way we came across a concert that was taking place (see below). Yeah, there were a few people to navigate, but overall it was a fun event. We made our way outside and over to the fountain (the best viewing angle for the show).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As much fun as it was, I’m not so sure I could do NYC and camp out for a spot. As it was we arrived at close to 10:30 and after walking around, taking the monorail and whatnot we got to the view of the Space Needle (above) with about 25 minutes left to spare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If ever in the northwest, I would say to check this event out. If in California? Try the Rose Bowl. If looking for free you will be a little more hard-pressed. Emily went to Vegas and that looked pretty fun as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, what a year! It is over! Goodnight! See you next year in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
