Queen Elizabeth the second has passed away today. She was 96 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch in British history and the world\u2019s oldest head of state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below is a photo from her on Tuesday (the 6th) welcoming the new Prime Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She became Queen in 1952 at the age of 25, when her father, King George VI, died. In 2015, she became the longest-serving British monarch in history, passing the record set by her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria. Upon the Queen\u2019s death, Prince Charles has immediately become the new monarch and he will be known as King Charles III<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A period of national mourning in the UK has begun and is set to last until the funeral, which is expected to take place in about 10 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stateside there has been a ton of media coverage about this (you’d think she were our Queen). Biden even announced<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

” As a mark of respect for the memory of Queen Elizabeth II, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, on the day of interment.  I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From what I can tell, the TV Series “The Crown” on Netflix has done a FANTASTIC job of historical accuracy. Speaking of the show, they also announced they are going to pause filming as a mark of respect to the Queen and her death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
